A charming antique Queen Anne style porringer-top beechwood tea table likely from New England. The old beechwood absolutely glows a rich golden color and it is smooth to the touch with age and a waxed finish. The table top bears numerous imperfections due to wear that add to the character of this tea table. The porringer corners, beautifully tapered legs and Queen Anne pad feet give this tea table a distinctive presence. This form of tea table was crafted for centuries so it is unclear if this is an 18th or 19th century example.
The construction is solid and sturdy. The top is slightly warped from age and use, see photos, but this variation does not interfere with the use of the table. There is old woodfill in the inactive wormhole damage on the tabletop and stretchers. Note the underside of the table top which was hand chamfered. In addition, there is a shadow on the underside of the table perhaps indicating that at one time this tabletop may have had a larger base.
