a colourful porcelain lidded box designed by brigitte doege for rosenthal studio-line, titled “a day in the caribbean.” the second motif in the reiseimpressionen (travel impressions) collector’s series, the piece combines tropical imagery with the expressive graphic language of late twentieth-century postmodern design. Particularly appealing is its preservation in the original rosenthal presentation box.

excellent vintage condition. No chips, cracks or restorations observed. The colours and glossy surface remain beautifully preserved. Original presentation box with minor age-related storage wear.

design and historical context

the reiseimpressionen series interprets international destinations through individual artistic compositions. In “a day in the caribbean,” doege evokes a tropical landscape through sweeping palm leaves, radiant sunlight, saturated greens, turquoise tones and a stylised horizon.

the lid features a circular palm-tree composition framed by lush tropical foliage, while a smaller coordinating illustration inside the box extends the decorative narrative beyond its exterior. The lively colour palette and simplified forms reflect the playful, illustrative character of late twentieth-century postmodern design.

the underside bears the rosenthal factory inscription identifying the designer, title and numbered series.
