The cupboard features two single-door storage compartments positioned to either side, each opening to reveal two internal shelves and providing generous concealed storage while maintaining the balanced symmetry of the design. Particularly noteworthy is the intricate decorative inlay executed in ebony and contrasting timbers. The carefully composed geometric and linear details provide a striking counterpoint to the rich mahogany and demonstrate the considerable skill and attention invested in the cabinetmaking. A raised gallery back gives the upper section additional architectural presence, while the substantial plinth base provides a strong and beautifully proportioned foundation. The original brass handles remain in place, complementing the warm tones of the timber, and the cupboard retains its working key. The mahogany displays pronounced natural grain and attractive figuring throughout, with rich colour and a mature patina that enhances the character of the contrasting inlaid decoration. Presented in very good antique condition, with appropriate signs of age and use consistent with its 19th-century origin. For easier transportation and installation, the cupboard separates into three principal sections. A rare and highly decorative example combining substantial practical storage with distinctive Arts and Crafts-inspired detailing, ideally suited to a drawing room, dining room, library or sophisticated period interior.
