A superb mid-18th-century English bureau, dating to circa 1760 and finely constructed from richly figured Cuban mahogany.

The piece is distinguished by its exceptional timber, beautifully developed patina and classic Georgian proportions.

The fall-front opens to form a generous writing surface and reveals a finely fitted interior arranged with numerous pigeonholes and small drawers, providing extensive organised storage for correspondence, documents and writing accessories.

Below the writing section are four graduated full-width drawers, each fitted with decorative brass handles and fittings. The bureau is raised upon traditional bracket feet, completing its restrained and beautifully balanced Georgian silhouette.

Particularly noteworthy is the quality of the Cuban mahogany, displaying pronounced natural figuring, deep rich colour and a mature surface patina developed over more than two centuries.

The bureau is presented in excellent antique condition for its age, with appropriate signs of historic use that contribute to its character.

Accompanying documentation dating from 1991 records an insurance valuation of £2,250 and describes the bureau as dating to approximately 1760, providing useful provenance and historical context for the piece.

A substantial and highly decorative example of mid-18th-century English cabinetmaking, combining practical storage and writing functionality with the exceptional visual character of aged Cuban mahogany.
