The generously proportioned mirror is supported within an elegant freestanding mahogany frame, creating a practical full-length dressing mirror while retaining the refined decorative character associated with quality Edwardian furniture. Particularly attractive is the fine satinwood stringing incorporated throughout the frame. The contrasting lighter timber provides a delicate decorative accent against the deeper tones of the mahogany, highlighting the graceful lines and carefully considered proportions of the piece. Further enhanced by attractive brass detailing, the mirror displays considerable attention to detail and quality of craftsmanship. The combination of mahogany, satinwood and brass gives the piece a sophisticated and beautifully balanced appearance. The frame stands on its original brass castors, an appealing surviving feature that preserves the period character of the mirror while allowing it to be repositioned relatively easily within an interior. Throughout, the mahogany displays magnificent natural grain, rich warm colouring and particularly attractive figuring. Combined with the contrasting satinwood inlay and brass elements, the timber gives the mirror considerable decorative presence. Standing 161 cm high, this is an impressive yet elegantly proportioned piece that would work beautifully within a bedroom, dressing room, hallway or sophisticated retail interior. Presented in good antique condition, with appropriate signs of age and historic use consistent with its early 20th-century origin. A rare and highly desirable example of Edwardian furniture, combining richly figured mahogany, fine satinwood stringing, elegant brass detailing and original brass castors within a beautifully proportioned and highly functional cheval mirror.
