A postmodern porcelain vase by American ceramic designer Dorothy Hafner for Rosenthal's Studio Linie, the division that commissioned avant-garde designers through the 1980s. Hafner's work for Rosenthal is known for its bold, hand-painted geometric and graphic patterning, and this piece is a strong example: a square-section form with her characteristic painted motifs on a white ground.
Hafner's Rosenthal pieces are held in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Cooper Hewitt and the Victoria & Albert Museum, and comparable vases from the series trade in the $1,500–$2,000 range. Signed Rosenthal Studio Linie with the Hafner backstamp to the underside.
Approx. 9" H x 5" W x 5" D. Excellent condition: no chips, cracks or repairs. From a Connecticut estate.
