A rectangular opening through each back serves as a handhold and gives the otherwise spare outline a distinctive detail. Warm bone colored leather covers the seat, a light tan. The legs are whitewashed, pale and matte against the hide, and every other line on the chair is kept straight and plain.
At 18 inches wide these are the narrowest chairs in the collection, which is exactly what makes them useful. An extra seat or two can go along a table that would not take a wider frame, and the cut-out means each chair lifts and moves with one hand, so they travel easily between the dining table and a desk, a hall or a spare bedroom.
Tan leather against whitewashed wood suits rooms that mix warm and cool, a bleached oak table, a pale plaster wall, a dark stone floor. They work in a modern dining room without looking clinical, and they suit a kitchen island as readily as a formal table. Pair them with linen, unglazed ceramics and a woven rug rather than with anything polished or highly reflective.
Color variation is common and acceptable on vintage leather.
