The finish is limed, leaving the grain pale and chalky where the wood would otherwise be honey-colored. The legs splay outward at the front and the back, giving the chair a light Scandinavian stance, and beige linen covers both the back panel and the seat in a plain, unfussy weave.

Each chair measures 18 inches wide, 24 inches deep and 35 inches high. The narrow width means six will line a standard table without crowding, and the modest overall height keeps the backs below the sightline across a room. The 24 inch depth is generous enough for a proper seat rather than a perch, so a long meal does not turn into an exercise in shifting position.

Limed oak and beige linen belong in rooms that stay quiet - a whitewashed dining room, a kitchen with pale stone counters, a garden room with plenty of glass. They sit well against a plank table or a round pedestal, and the pale frame keeps a dark floor from feeling heavy. Add a woven pendant and a jute rug and the arrangement holds together without needing much else in the room. See less
