A striking pair of mid-20th-century Chinoiserie figural table lamps, dating to the late 1940s or 1950s. These lamps are molded in heavy chalkware (plaster) and feature an eye-catching, glossy "faux cinnabar" red finish, accented with intricate black and gold decorative borders along the traditional flowing robes.
The figures represent stylized celestial maidens or geishas holding fans, standing gracefully in front of organic, openwork rock formations or tree branches that form the column of the lamp. They are set atop matching tiered oriental style bases. Please note there is a prominent, chunky chip located on the bottom edge of the base on one lamp (see detailed photos). It does not impact the stability of the piece and is largely hidden from view when displayed. Since the lamps have original wiring, I would have an electrician inspect before using.
