Carved from a single block of heavy, natural alabaster, the stone features variegated green veining interspersed with amber and ochre tones, lending the creature an organic, mottled appearance well suited to an amphibian subject. The carving is smoothly contoured through the rounded back and muscular folded haunches, with distinct separation defining the front legs and splayed webbed feet. It sits solidly upright, measuring 18 cm in height and approximately 18 cm in length, creating a substantial and tactile display object. To the unpolished underside, the base retains a worn oval paper retailer or workshop label printed in blue with 'alabastri - pietre dure / baccerini / portofino'.

the baccerini workshop was an established maker and purveyor of carved alabaster and hardstone souvenirs along the ligurian coast during the mid-20th century, typically dating from the 1950s or 1960s. The surface retains a soft satin finish, showing scattered superficial scratches, light scuff marks to the arched spine, and minor nibbles along the lower carved edges and toes consistent with age and handling. The stone is structurally sound throughout, with no major breaks or repairs.
