Originally manufactured for use within a French chapel or parish church, each candlestick features a traditional sectional construction secured by a central internal iron-tie-rod. Cast in heavy brass using historic sand-moulding techniques, the candlesticks boast an elegant multi-baluster stem heavily embellished with crisp gadrooned ribbing. Each piece rises from a distinct tripartite tripod base decorated with intricate stippled dot detailing and an ornate central cartouche, all resting stable on detailed lion paw feet. The top features a generous circular drip pan designed to catch molten wax, framing a sharp central forged pricket spike meant to impale large devotional candles.
Originally finished with a delicate silver-plated coating (metal argente), decades of polishing have gently rubbed the silver away on high-relief areas to reveal the warm, golden hue of brass beneath. This creates a striking, rich contrast against the dark, oxidized patina and natural verdigris resting deep in the crevices, perfectly anchoring a fireplace mantle, console table or moody dining room aesthetic.
