This exceptional piece exemplifies the refined aesthetic of early 20th-century Chinese weaving. The Peking style, known for its sumptuous wool and highly stylized designs, was particularly popular during this period, appealing to Western tastes for decorative antique rugs.

The composition is defined by a striking contrast between the vast, open central field and the densely decorated border. The field utilizes a soft, pale ivory color, which allows the intricate detailing of the corner motifs to truly stand out. This light ground provides a luminous quality, characteristic of the finest export-grade textiles of the 1920s.

The border is rendered in a rich, deep indigo blue, featuring charming depictions of traditional Chinese architectural elements—such as pavilions and pagodas—interspersed with delicate floral sprays and trailing vines. The overall effect is one of serene asymmetry, where classical motifs are presented with an Art Deco sensibility.

Woven with a luxurious pile and exhibiting superb craftsmanship, this elegant textile is ideally suited for placement as a central room size rug. Its sophisticated palette and open design ensure it serves as a versatile foundation for both traditional and contemporary interiors, offering a tangible connection to the artistry of the Republican Era.
