This exceptionally decorative piece captures the essence of the 1920s, blending traditional Chinese iconography with the bold, simplified aesthetic of the Art Deco movement. The characteristic open field and naturalistic floral sprays define the enduring appeal of Chinese Art Deco.

The expansive central field, described as an ivory Rug in its original classification, displays a soft, patinated mauve hue today, providing a dramatic contrast to the saturated, wide magenta border. Scattered across this field are delicate arrangements of peonies, chrysanthemums, and butterflies, rendered in a complementary palette of pale blues, yellows, and deep rose. These elements are hallmarks of the finest Chinese rugs produced during the early Republic era.

Woven in China from high-quality medium wool, the pile retains a luxurious density, indicative of the superior craftsmanship of the period. Its substantial dimensions classify it among the desirable room size rugs, perfect for anchoring a sophisticated living space or formal dining room with its vibrant, yet controlled, coloration.

The rug's composition is a testament to the global influence of modern design on traditional weaving centers. This highly collectible textile represents a significant aesthetic bridge between East and West, making it a prized acquisition for discerning collectors of exceptional antique rugs. See less
