This exceptional example of late Qing Dynasty weaving represents the pinnacle of the peking style, characterized by its open composition and sophisticated use of negative space.

The serene palette is defined by a luminous ivory field overlaid with a subtle, moss-green diamond trellis. The primary contrast is provided by the deep indigo elements found in the central medallion and the multiple guard borders, making this a highly desirable blue color rug for sophisticated interiors.

The iconography is precise and symbolic. The large, central roundel features stylized cloud bands and traditional symbols of longevity and good fortune. The overall design eschews the busy complexity of earlier Persian imports, favoring instead the restrained elegance that became the signature of Chinese rugs during the late 19th century.

The structure is framed by a broad, camel-toned main border featuring repeating stylized floral scrolls, meticulously contained by sharp, dark blue guard stripes. This finely preserved textile is a superb example of antique rugs from this period, and its generous dimensions classify it as a true room size rug, ideal for anchoring a formal living area. See less
