This is a substantial and exquisitely crafted carved lacquer box, featuring deep, intricate relief work in a rich, vermilion red. The circular box and its domed lid are heavily carved with traditional motifs. The top lid depicts dynamic, writhing dragons amidst stylized clouds and a central flaming pearl, set against a textured, wave-like background. The sides of both the lid and the base are decorated with a dense, continuous pattern of blooming peonies and chrysanthemums, intricately carved with fine details in the petals and leaves.
The interior of the box is lined with a dark, crackled black surface. On the flat, black underside of the base, there is a recessed rectangular seal and several columns of gold-painted calligraphy, including the characters "乾隆年製" (Made in the Qianlong Year). The deep carving and rich color give this piece a striking, sculptural presence. It serves as a stunning decorative accent or a luxurious storage vessel for jewelry and small treasures.

The carved lacquer exterior is largely intact with a beautiful, deep red color and some natural surface wear, minor scratches, and slight fading in the deepest crevices, which adds depth and character. The interior black lacquer shows significant crazing (crackle texture) typical of aged lacquer. The gold calligraphy and seal on the base remain clear. The structural integrity of the box and lid appears solid. Please review all photos carefully for a detailed view of the condition. less
