This is a beautifully crafted rectangular wooden box featuring intricate mother-of-pearl (nacre) inlay work on the lid. Crafted from a richly grained hardwood with a warm, deep brown patina, the box is constructed with traditional exposed joinery at the corners, highlighting the quality of the craftsmanship.
The sliding lid is beautifully decorated with a detailed nature scene. Two birds with intricately detailed feathers and vibrant, iridescent green and purple tail feathers are perched on a twisting, gnarled branch adorned with delicate shell blossoms and leaves. The artisan has utilized various tones of iridescent shell—including bright white, pale yellow, and deep pink—to create a dimensional artwork against the dark wood background.
