The woven seat now serves as the top, set within a frame of honey-brown wood. Below it the apron is open: turned spindles alternate with round discs, and a large concentric roundel with a small metal plate marks the center. Scrolled brackets fill each corner and the feet end in curled scrolls. The wood has the soft, rubbed glow of old furniture, and it reads as one piece from every side.

At 74 inches long, 32 inches deep and 19 inches high, it is big enough to anchor a whole seating group, with room for books, trays and a few sculptural objects. Use it in front of a long sofa, between two facing sofas, or at the foot of a bed. The open apron lets light pass beneath, and the woven top gives a room a layer of texture.
