Two small drawers across the top carry carved blossoms and sprigs and a half-round cup pull. Below them, each door has a raised panel with a carved triangular spray at the center and tiny flowers in the corners. Brass butterfly hinges, a brass lock plate and a slide latch give the front a bright, practical detail, and scalloped brackets between the straight legs soften the base.

It is a mid-century piece in the Asian tradition, made when Chinese cabinet forms were still being built with carved doors and brass hardware. At 36 inches wide and 38.5 inches high, it is the right size for an entry, a dining room wall, a bedroom or beside a sofa. The black finish gives it a clean outline against white plaster, and the carving keeps it from looking plain up close.
