Hand-cast by Felt So Devine using a cast from a historic Anton Reiche design mold, this figure is masterfully finished in a traditional 19th-century Shenandoah and Pennsylvania redware patina.
The bear features an incredibly expressive, simple, and stoic primitive face, completely avoiding a modern cartoon look. A rich dark glaze was dropped directly into the molded eye sockets, nose tip, and mouth crease to anchor his classic folk-art features. He holds a beautifully textured holiday tree, detailed using a loose, hand-sponge method to apply a mossy green glaze to the outermost tips of the pine branches while leaving the deep terracotta valleys visible underneath. His chest is adorned with a traditional, hand-trailed double horizontal yellow slip "S-swag" ribbon, and the pedestal base is framed cleanly with matching yellow and green rings.
A thinned manganese dark antiquing wash was flowed down the back and sides, naturally settling into the bear’s chiseled fur texturing to produce intense three-dimensional depth and a time-worn, wood-fired look. Finished with a protective leather studio signature pad on the bottom and sealed in a brilliant, crystal-clear high-gloss topcoat that mirrors old-world liquid glazes flawlessly.
