Set of 2 Edo era (ca 1850) Japanese woodblock prints of Bijin-ga / Geishas / Courtesans in kimonos. The first print is by Utagawa Sadafusa (active ca 1825-1850) and shows a courtesan with a Kamuro hiding behind her kimono. The second prints is by Utagawa Yoshitora (active 1850-1880) and shows a courtesan looking at a landscape painting. These are original antique prints from ca 1850 and have been newly framed.
ARTISTS:
Utagawa Sadafusa (active 1825-1850) was famous Edo era woodblock print artist know for pictures of beautiful women (Bijin-Ga), actors and heroes. He was a pupil of Utagawa Kunisada or Toyokuni III (1786-1865).
Utagawa Yoshitora (active 1850-1880) was a designer of Japanese woodblock prints and illustrator of books. He was a pupil of the more famous Utagawa Kuniyoshi (1798-1981).
Condition: Good condition for age – some imperfections. Please note that antique and vintage artworks may have traces of time, stains, creases and fading due to age, so please review all photos.
