These substantial decorative jars are beautifully decorated in cobalt blue with abundant scrolling peony blossoms and foliage, finished with domed removable covers and pointed finials. One remarkably retains its original Ralph Lauren Home Furniture trade label, while the bases retain their RLH trade labels confirming manufacture in China The design takes its inspiration from the celebrated blue-and-white porcelain produced at Jingdezhen during the Yuan and early Ming dynasties of the 14th and 15th centuries. In particular, the dense scrolling peony decoration is closely associated with important Yuan blue-and-white guan jars, where large peony blooms, leafy tendrils and successive ornamental borders were painted in underglaze cobalt. This style became enormously influential, with Chinese blue-and-white porcelain subsequently becoming one of the most internationally recognisable forms of Chinese decorative art The pair are in exceptional ex-display condition and present as new, having been used for display purposes only. At 61cm tall they have considerable presence and are particularly effective as statement pieces on consoles, pedestals or either side of a fireplace. Their impressive scale, classic Chinese-inspired decoration and identifiable Ralph Lauren Home provenance make them particularly desirable decorative pieces.
