Displaying the graceful curves associated with the Louis XV tradition. The beautifully figured walnut frames feature sweeping open arms terminating in carved scrolls, shaped and finely carved aprons and elegant cabriole legs. Both chairs retain their traditional coil-sprung seat bases, giving them the substantial construction and generous comfort expected of good-quality period seating. The armchairs are upholstered in a luxurious pale champagne-coloured silk damask, woven with an elegant repeating design of floral bouquets, ribbons and trailing foliage. The tone-on-tone pattern has a wonderfully soft, lustrous finish which changes subtly with the light and complements the warm colour and natural figuring of the walnut beautifully. with their generous proportions and wonderfully fluid carved frames, the pair have a refined French château or country-house appearance. The chairs are presented in good antique condition with genuine signs of age and use. The walnut frames display minor marks and natural variations consistent with their age, while the silk damask shows more pronounced wear, patina and tonal variation, particularly around the edges and sides. There is also some light staining to the seat base of one chair, together with general age-related marks to the upholstery. We have deliberately left these areas untouched as they form part of the authentic character and history of this handsome antique pair.
