French Art Nouveau Belfort Vase by Legras & Cie – Montjoye, Saint-Denis, circa 1900
An elegant French Art Nouveau vase produced by Legras & Cie at the Montjoye glassworks in Saint-Denis, France, around 1900.
The Belfort model features a distinctive elongated silhouette with a gently waisted body, a flared circular base and a square opening with softly rounded corners.
Made from rich emerald green glass, the vase is decorated with substantial raised polychrome enamels depicting a large stylized flower in cream, ochre and reddish-brown tones, complemented by smaller blossoms and delicate foliage.
Intricate gilded scrollwork, botanical motifs and ornamental star-shaped medallions enrich the composition.
The contrast between the translucent green glass, textured enamels and fine gilding is particularly characteristic of French decorative glass from the Art Nouveau period.
Condition: Very good antique condition. No chips or cracks to the glass. Age-related surface crazing and wear to the enamels, together with some wear to the gilding. Unsigned.
