A beautiful jewelry casket with gilded metal decorations, made in France around 1850.
The rectangular case has a black polished shellac surface enriched with fine brass inlays that form elegant panel borders. It is further adorned with finely cast and gilded bronze mounts, including scrolling corner supports ending in paw feet, beaded borders along the top and base, and a central ornamental escutcheon. The lid is hinged and the original key is present.
The interior is lined with light blue silk. The overall condition is consistent with its age.
