A handsome set of seven vintage silver-plated shot cups or schnapps tumblers featuring an all-over hand-hammered (martelé) finish and warm gilded interiors. Each vessel is raised in a clean, gently tapered cylindrical form. The faceted, dimpled exterior catches and disperses reflections across the silver surface, while the gold-washed (vermeil) interior provides an elegant visual contrast while preventing oxidation and tarnishing from acidic spirits and spirits such as vodka, schnapps, or aquavit. Substantial in hand and marked epns to the underside, this set functions as an elevated barware accessory for entertaining or as a decorative display on a bar cart or cocktail tray.
details & specifications item type: shot glasses / schnapps beakers / liqueur cups
design period: circa 1930s–1950s style: art deco / arts & crafts / modernist materials: silver plate on nickel silver (epns), gilt / vermeil wash markings: stamped "epns" to the underside number of items: set of 7 dimensions (each): height: 5.0 cm (approx. 1.97 in) top diameter: 4.5 cm (approx. 1.77 in) maker / origin: stamped epns (electroplated nickel silver).
this standard metallurgical hallmark indicates high-grade electroplated silver over a nickel-brass base alloy, predominantly produced by british silversmiths (such as walker & hall, elkington, or james dixon & sons) or scandinavian/continental workshops producing luxury barware for the export market. Date: circa 1930s–1950s (interwar to mid-20th century). The combination of hand-planished surfaces and vermeil/gilt interiors is characteristic of bar sets produced from the late art deco era into the post-war period. Style: art deco / arts & crafts revival / modernist barware. The conical, unadorned form leans directly into clean modernism, while the dimpled, faceted martelé (hammered) surface honors the arts & crafts and wiener werkstätte hand-wrought tradition.
