This stunning piece is an exemplary representation of early 20th-century Chinese weaving. The expansive field is dominated by a brilliant, saturated tone, making it a highly desirable example among blue color rugs. The sparse composition highlights the quality of the wool and the depth of the dye work.

A beautifully rendered central medallion anchors the design, featuring intricate floral and foliate sprays rendered in soft ivory, tan, and contrasting indigo. While deeply rooted in Chinese tradition, the overall aesthetic of these early 20th-century creations often appeals to collectors of broader oriental rugs due to their sophisticated color palettes and masterful execution.

The wide, contrasting border frames the composition perfectly, utilizing classic Chinese fretwork and continuous vine motifs against a pale ground. Given its substantial dimensions, this textile functions beautifully as one of the essential room size rugs, capable of defining a large living space or formal dining area with its commanding presence.

Knotted during a period of significant artistic transition in China, this rug maintains excellent structural integrity and color retention typical of high-quality pieces from the era. It stands as a testament to the enduring craftsmanship found within our collection of exceptional antique rugs, offering both historical value and timeless decorative appeal. See less
