A substantial vintage butcher block table from the venerable Chicago maker John Boos & Co., long regarded as the gold standard in professional butcher block construction since the 19th century. This example features a massive laminated hard maple top, built up from dozens of vertically-oriented strips bonded and compressed into a dense, durable work surface — the traditional "edge-grain" construction prized by butchers and chefs alike for its resilience under repeated blade contact and its ability to self-heal minor cuts over time.
The block has developed a beautiful golden patina from decades of use, with visible knife scoring, mineral oil staining, and natural checking across the surface that speak to genuine working history rather than manufactured distress. The deep, generous top sits atop a simple, sturdy four-leg maple trestle base, its clean square-cut legs offering an honest, utilitarian silhouette that pairs equally well in a rustic farmhouse kitchen or as an industrial-chic kitchen island in a more contemporary space.
Solid, heavy, and built to outlast generations of use, this is a genuine piece of commercial kitchen history — as functional today as a chopping and prep station as it is compelling as a statement piece of Americana in a kitchen, butcher shop-inspired bar, or gourmet dining space.
