Pair of Antique 1900 French Art Nouveau "Mercure" Framed Lithograph Plates
Offered is an exceptional, matching pair of original turn-of-the-century (c. 1900) Art Nouveau / Jugendstil pochoir and color lithograph plates titled "Mercure" (Merkur in Verschiedenen Darstellungen), created after designs by Austrian/German master artist Professor Gustav Sturm (1855–1921).
Sourced from the landmark Parisian decorative arts periodical "Le Journal de la Décoration" (published by Armand Guérinet, 140 Faubourg Saint-Martin, Paris), each plate features three distinct classical studies of Mercury / Hermes, the Roman god of commerce and trade:
• Left Panel: A graceful, full-length depiction of Mercury in flight, holding the caduceus staff and scattering coins across the globe.
• Upper Right Panel: Seated Mercury resting on merchant bales, holding his caduceus and a bowl of abundance.
• Lower Right Panel: An elegant portrait vignette of Mercury with his winged petasos helmet, money bag, and caduceus.
Having two identical, period-authentic original prints identically presented creates an ideal symmetrical pairing for flanking doorways, bedside tables, or office wall displays.
Both pieces are custom-presented in matching 11" x 14" Brushed Gold Frames with acid-free Cream Matting, ready for immediate hanging.
