This vintage sculpture distills a pair of lovers into a single flowing, minimalist form, cut from a warm, reddish-brown hardwood with a satiny, hand-rubbed finish. The two elongated figures are shaped as interlocking pieces that read like a three-dimensional puzzle. Their softly tapered bodies lean together, and their faces meet in a gentle kiss marked by a fine incised line. Each head carries a small, round recessed hole in place of an eye, adding a quiet, surreal note that echoes mid-century modernist abstraction. One figure’s arm sweeps out in a loose, organic curve, creating a lively pocket of negative space, while the other embraces the first in a sinuous cutout that traces the line of the shoulder and hand. The vertical grain runs straight through both figures, giving the composition unity and a subtle, natural texture. The base is formed by two slightly flared skirts, one with a small arched notch that lets the piece stand firmly. A handwritten signature is inscribed near the lower edge, and small incised tick marks suggest the studio construction.
Display this sculpture on a mantel, bookshelf, console, or nightstand, where it can be turned and enjoyed from several angles. It complements Mid-Century Modern, Organic Modern, Scandinavian Modern, Boho, and Eclectic interiors, especially alongside ceramics, books, and warm wood furnishings. To care for it, dust with a soft, dry cloth, occasionally buff with a light application of furniture wax or wood conditioner, and avoid water, harsh chemicals, and prolonged direct sunlight or heat that could dry the wood. The sculpture measures approximately 3 inches (76 mm) wide, 2 inches (51 mm) deep, and 8.75 inches (222 mm) high. Offered in very good vintage condition, it retains its original finish with a warm patina, minor surface scuffs and slight wear, and is structurally sound with no visible repairs or losses. Add this tender, sculptural piece to your collection today.
