Bring a touch of international organic modernism to your bookshelf or vignette with this striking mid-century modern black ceramic sculpture. This piece features a stylized, fluid human form depicted in a reflective kneeling pose, beautifully finished in a deep, high-gloss ebony glaze that reflects light from every angle.
What makes this specific sculpture exceptionally rare is its unique institutional provenance. The lower front rim features clean, vintage gold-stamped lettering reading "UNIVERSIDAD NACIONAL DE SAN CRISTOBAL DE HUAMANGA." This points to Peru’s second-oldest public university, located in the historic artisan hub of Ayacucho. Reopened by the state in 1959, the university frequently commissioned localized modernist pieces to present as prestigious commemorative tokens, awards, or diplomatic institutional gifts.
The piece is slip-cast with a hollow core and features a completely clean, unglazed buff-colored base rim with no hidden factory marks. Perfect for collectors of international mid-century artifacts, avant-garde figurative art, or minimalist design. See less
