Crafted from a richly grained hardwood with a deep, warm brown patina, the screen is designed with a carved, scrolling openwork frame that supports a central circular plaque.

The front of the circular plaque is beautifully decorated with a detailed nature scene. Two birds with vibrant, iridescent green and blue wing feathers are depicted in flight around a central cluster of blooming peonies and chrysanthemums. The artisan has utilized various tones of iridescent shell—including bright white, pale yellow, and deep green—to create the blossoms, leaves, and birds against the natural wood background. The base of the stand is also adorned with a delicate, symmetrical floral shell inlay and finished with a carved, scrolling apron.

The reverse side of the screen features four large, elegantly formed characters applied in shimmering white shell, arranged in vertical columns. The piece is solid and substantial, making it a stunning decorative accent for a mantel, shelf, or desk.
