This exceptional piece from the mid-19th century represents the refined artistry characteristic of Ningxia production. Its precise knotting and deeply saturated dyes mark it as a superior example among antique rugs of the period.

The palette is particularly striking, featuring a vibrant yellow field that dominates the composition. This yellow hue is subtly modulated by repeating stylized cloud bands rendered in pale blue and tones of ivory and beige, creating a dynamic, shimmering effect across the surface. Two circular medallions, rendered in deep indigo, are centered vertically within the field, providing focal points without disrupting the overall movement of the pattern.

The field is framed by a robust, wide border of deep indigo blue, providing a powerful visual anchor. This main guard is separated from the central panel by a classic terracotta-colored Greek key meander, a traditional motif that lends structure and geometric precision to the design, typical of high-quality Qing Dynasty textiles.

The density of the knotting and the quality of the wool ensure this rug's longevity, making it a highly desirable acquisition for collectors seeking authentic 19th-century Chinese textiles. Given its dimensions, this Ningxia weaving functions perfectly as a decorative accent piece in a small scatter size. See less
