This exceptional Chinese Art Deco piece features a luminous, slightly shimmering field rendered in a muted beige-taupe that aligns beautifully with contemporary ivory color rugs. The luxurious wool pile provides a soft texture characteristic of the finest early 20th-century weaving from the region.

The central field is dramatically framed by a wide, deep indigo border, a signature contrast often seen in 1920s Chinese design. The overall composition is defined by delicate, naturalistic sprays of flowers and foliage, anchored by a central vase motif. This elegant use of botanical elements places it firmly within the tradition of sophisticated floral rugs.

Perfectly proportioned for an entryway, bedside placement, or intimate seating area, this small scatter size rug offers versatility without compromising visual impact. The Art Deco period favored open space and simplified designs, allowing the vibrant secondary colors—crimson, gold, and teal—to pop against the neutral ground and rich blue frame.

Woven during a pivotal moment in Chinese textile history when traditional motifs were modernized for Western export, this piece is a superb example of its genre. Its excellent preservation and distinctive palette make it a highly desirable addition to any collection of fine antique rugs. See less
