This exceptional Chinese Peking rug, dating from the early Republican era, presents a sophisticated study in contrast. The expansive, luminous field is rendered in a warm, buttery ivory color, providing a perfect counterpoint to the dramatic, wide border executed in deep indigo and midnight blue.

The design adheres to classic Chinese aesthetics, featuring a beautifully articulated central medallion and scattered sprays of blossoms across the open ground. The intricate detailing of the stylized floral motifs, primarily rendered in shades of cobalt and sky blue, suggests longevity and prosperity, hallmarks of the finest examples of early 20th-century weaving.

Hand-knotted from high-quality wool, this piece retains a plush handle and exceptional durability. Its generous room size format makes it ideally suited for anchoring a primary living area or formal dining room, offering both historical integrity and practical utility in contemporary interiors.

As a genuine artifact from the 1920s, this Peking creation represents a pivotal moment in the history of East Asian textile art, when traditional craftsmanship met burgeoning international demand. It is a distinguished example among our collection of fine antique rugs, offering a timeless elegance that transcends passing trends. See less
