The distressed paint has softened with time, and the compact case rests on simple bun feet. The Gustavian style flourished in Sweden during and after the reign of Gustav III, from 1771 to 1792, translating French neoclassicism into pale, painted surfaces and a light, understated elegance suited to northern interiors. Signs of age are consistent with its years and part of its quiet appeal. It will anchor an entry, dining room or bedroom with generous storage and a patina that cannot be reproduced.
