This 1970s Brutalist oak upholstered sofa from France is made in carved oak with cream cushions as a three-seat sofa. The heavy carved frame and the deep cushions make it comfortable and sculptural. Brutalist design of the 1960s and 1970s favored bold, sculptural and heavily built forms in natural materials such as oak, with a deliberately raw and weighty presence. Its surface carries the gentle marks of age, never overworked or artificially distressed. Placed in a living room, library or bedroom, it offers comfort with real presence and sits happily alongside both antique and modern pieces.
