This exquisite piece represents the refined aesthetic of early 20th-century Chinese weaving, characterized by its dense, hand-knotted wool pile and sophisticated use of negative space, common among antique rugs from this period.

The palette is dominated by a profound, almost midnight indigo, providing a dramatic backdrop for the stylized motifs rendered in contrasting gold and lighter blue tones. This deep saturation is highly sought after in blue color rugs, lending the piece an air of solemn elegance. The central field is kept largely open, emphasizing the depth of the color and the luxurious texture of the wool.

Measuring in a small scatter size, this square rug is perfectly suited for intimate spaces, such as an entryway, beside a bed, or layered over a larger floor covering to introduce a focused point of color and texture. Its compact dimensions allow the intricate corner designs to be appreciated up close, showcasing the weaver's precision.

The design relies on traditional Chinese symbolism, featuring stylized vessels and delicate sprays of blossoms. These carefully placed accents anchor the corners, offering a restrained yet unmistakable example of traditional floral rugs that defined the Peking style during the Republic Era, balancing rich color with elegant, minimal ornamentation.
