It has a striking silhouette, somewhere between a Cubist sculpture and a small ziggurat. Its tiered geometric volumes, clean lines, and asymmetrical composition testify to the boldness of the decorative arts of the interwar period.

Made of earthenware, it is covered with a beautiful mustard-yellow glaze, traversed by a dense network of brown crackles. This glossy glaze, meticulously crafted, highlights the reliefs and gives the piece remarkable depth and presence.

Probably made in the 1930s, this smoking set can be attributed to the Belgian manufacturer Boch Frères, based in La Louvière, whose Art Deco creations significantly contributed to the revival of decorative ceramics. A circular black stamp, unfortunately badly damaged, and a molded number are found on the base. Their resemblance to known markings and references of Boch Frères provides a very promising lead.

Originally, the central pot, topped with its stepped lid, was intended for tobacco, while the side compartments held cigarettes, matches, and other smoking accessories.

Now repurposed, it will find a place of honor on a desk, console table, or dressing table, to hold jewelry and small objects. A rare and unique piece, where the everyday object meets the formal explorations of Cubism and Art Deco. It's just as captivating as the earthenware itself.

It is in excellent condition.
