Produced in Italy during the mid-20th century, the vase displays the optical depth and precision associated with Venetian sommerso glassmaking. At its centre, a brilliant green glass interior extends into a rounded, elongated form, surrounded by a contrasting layer of warm yellow. The outermost layer is a delicate lilac, an uncommon alternative to the clear glass typically used in sommerso pieces. This subtle colour variation creates a particularly interesting interplay of transparency, reflection and refraction. The six flat, highly polished exterior facets emphasise the internal layers, creating shifting geometric reflections as the piece is viewed from different angles. The substantial glass walls and compact architectural proportions give the vase a distinctly sculptural quality. An engaging example of mid-century Italian art glass, equally suited to displaying a single stem or as a small decorative object within a collection of Murano glass.
