at the time when it was designed, the fluorescent light tube was considered to be something purely practical and not particularly pretty. It was mostly hidden in functional ceiling lights. Van den nieuwelaar however saw how both geometry and industrial production had defined 20th century modernism. He approached the standard fluorescent tube as an abstract line and prolonged and bent it along the 3 spatial axes, making the tube a prominent and integral part of the lamp’s sculptural shape

this particular lamp belonged to van den nieuwelaar’s friends and colleague designer-artists emmy van leersum and gijs bakker. The work of all three designer-artists was shown in dutch galleries that belonged to the global avant-garde when it comes to concrete, geometric art and design of the sixties

after van den nieuwelaar's designs were also exhibited in the stedelijk museum lighting company artimeta took the tc series in production. All except the first one: of this tc1 only very few prototypes were ever made. One of them is still in the collection of the stedelijk museum in amsterdam a second one is here on offer i have official proof of authenticity such as vintage catalogs,
designer records,
