This exquisite example of early 20th-century Chinese weaving showcases the refined aesthetic typical of the Peking style. The expansive field is rendered in a highly desirable, soft coral color, providing a warm, sophisticated backdrop for the classical motifs.

The composition is elegantly sparse, featuring a delicate central medallion surrounded by scattered, stylized sprigs and butterflies. The use of deep indigo and pale yellow highlights the gentle patina of the wool. This piece exemplifies the enduring appeal of floral rugs that prioritize negative space and balance over dense ornamentation.

A complex, layered border system frames the central design, incorporating traditional Chinese fretwork alongside scrolling vine elements. Given its likely dimensions, this piece would function beautifully as one of the essential room size rugs, anchoring a formal living space or dining area with its subtle grandeur and plush pile.

Woven during the Art Deco period, this rug successfully blends traditional Chinese iconography with the simplified elegance of modern design. It represents a superb acquisition for collectors seeking refined antique rugs from the golden age of Peking production, offering both historical value and timeless decorative appeal. See less
