This exceptional piece captures the aesthetic transition of the early 20th century, utilizing a remarkably soft, almost luminous field color. The wool pile displays the muted, yet warm, hue characteristic of high-grade Chinese production, presenting a sophisticated coral / salmon pink foundation that anchors the entire composition.

The composition is defined by a striking contrast between the expansive, unadorned field and the deeply saturated indigo border. At the center rests a highly stylized floral medallion, rendered in deep navy and subtle gold accents. This central motif is balanced by corresponding spandrels in the corners, maintaining the classical symmetry expected of the finest Peking designs, yet executed with the simplified elegance of the Art Deco period.

Framing the field is a complex series of borders featuring traditional Chinese key fret patterns and stylized scrolling vines. The dense, hand-knotted wool construction speaks to the enduring quality and craftsmanship of this era. Such pieces are highly sought after by collectors and designers alike, representing the pinnacle of antique rugs from the Republican period.

Offering substantial coverage, this rectangle format provides impressive room size dimensions, making it an ideal anchor for a large living space or formal dining area. The rug's refined palette and durable structure ensure it remains a timeless statement piece, bridging traditional Chinese artistry with early modern design sensibilities. See less
