This 1960's royal blue porcelain French pyrogène (or match striker and holder) was traditionally utilized in restaurants, cafés and shops for the person needing to light their cigarette or candle. The center holds the matches while the exterior is ribbed, providing a texture for the match head to ignite into flame. The base usually was decorated with French advertising, as seen on this particular piece, for Royer Hutin, a brand initially known for producing Absinthe, before it was banned in 1915. It also advertises its brand of Triple Sec and Curaçao Sec
