The original oil painting on canvas panel board is painted in 2015 by the artist Jim Lyons. The Abstract Expressionist style composition is created using a traditional French En Plein Air easel painted technique. It features a landscape view of The Cape Cod National Seashore Dunes located in The Peaked Hill Bars Historic District in Provincetown, Massachusetts.

The extraordinary Provincetown Dunes are a part of The Cape Cod National Seashore, which stretches the Eastern edge of The Cape Cod coast line from Chatham to Provincetown. The National Park protects this unique but fragile ecological system of the dunes to ensure the preservation of its beauty and the natural habitat living in it.

The dunes have changed throughout the centuries. Over the years the shape of the dunes shift with the wind, rain, and tide. The Wampanoag People inhabited and used all of the lands within The National Seashore, including the dunes area, prior to European settlement in the 1600's. Early settlers found and used the trees from the dune's forest to build in Provincetown. As a result, it became more of a barren landscape creating a spectacular expanse of sand.

During the early 1920's this beautiful landscape was appealing to the many artists and writers who were attracted to the artist's colony in Provincetown. They built and would live in spartan solitude in what became known as the dune shacks. Among them Eugene O'Neil, Harry Kemp, Jack Kerouac, E.E. Cummings, Norman Mailer, Jackson Pollock and countless other artists have been inspired by this remarkable undeveloped dune landscape.

The framed Abstract Expressionist painting measures 17 3/8" W X 13 3/8" H X 2 3/8" D.

It is custom framed in a Contemporary Modern natural white oak wood minimal profile deep sided museum box style floater frame molding, with an attached hanging wire on the reverse back side for easy wall installation.

It is in excellent " like new " condition. The painting is in excellent " like new " clean condition consistent with age, very light signs of handling, and very light minor wear.
