This Japanese Nambu Tekki Tetsubin by Shofudo is a traditional cast iron tea kettle with raised bamboo stalks and leaves, geometric key-fret borders, and a substantial arched iron handle. The cylindrical body is finished in dark textured iron with an aged patina, while the curved spout and fitted removable lid with fluted knob complete the traditional construction.
Bamboo symbolizes strength, flexibility, and prosperity, while the upper and lower key-fret borders, resembling traditional raimon thunder patterns, are associated with continuity and good fortune. The kettle is in very good condition with interior rust and patina. It has previously been used to boil water and prepare tea, with clear water observed during use.
