A charming antique French manual coffee grinder by Peugeot Frères, combining a compact wooden body with a striking bright yellow-painted metal crank and grinding chamber.
This smaller-format grinder retains its traditional wooden collection drawer, turned crank handle and an attractive oval brass Peugeot Frères maker's badge, featuring the iconic lion emblem and the inscription Valentigney (Doubs).
The contrast between the warm, aged wood and vivid yellow metalwork gives this piece a distinctive decorative presence. Its compact proportions make it particularly appealing for display on a kitchen shelf, countertop or among a collection of antique French culinary objects.
The yellow-painted metal components have been repainted at some point in the grinder's history and should not be considered an original factory finish.
About Peugeot Frères
Long before the lion emblem became synonymous with automobiles, Peugeot Frères was a family-run steelworks in eastern France, founded in the early 1800s in the Franche-Comté region. What began as a modest forge evolved into one of France’s most respected manufacturers of precision tools and household objects, renowned for the quality of its steel and mechanical ingenuity.
In the late 19th century, the company turned its expertise toward coffee grinders, crafting beautifully engineered pieces designed for durability and daily ritual. Today, antique Peugeot grinders carry that legacy — blending utility, design, and a tangible link to France’s industrial heritage.
