This vintage oil painting is a quiet, sunlit still life in the European tradition, with a glazed green jug anchoring a table of ripe grapes. The two-handled stoneware jug glows in emerald and viridian across its upper half, with a glossy, dripping glaze that gives way to raw, terracotta-brown clay below. Dark purple-black grape clusters spill across a rumpled cream linen cloth in the foreground, while paler green and golden clusters sit behind the jug. Vine leaves in lime and sage add a fresh note of color. At left, a dark-framed window opens onto a soft, hazy hillside, and warm ochre and putty-toned plaster walls catch the light. The brushwork is soft and layered, with the linen weave showing through the paint, which gives the surface a tactile, gently worn quality. The palette is earthy and harmonious, with the cool greens set against warm neutrals. The artist’s signature and the date 1928 appear at upper right. The canvas is set in a simple, tapered wood frame in deep mahogany-brown, with a mellow, lightly rubbed finish.
Calm and timeless, this painting suits a dining room, kitchen, library, entry, or the wall above a console or buffet, where its warm tones and rustic subject bring a feeling of Mediterranean ease. It complements Traditional, French Country, Farmhouse, Mediterranean, and Organic Modern interiors. The piece measures 32.5 inches (826 mm) wide, 1.5 inches (38 mm) deep, and 27.25 inches (692 mm) high, including the frame. Condition is very good: the painted surface is well preserved with minimal signs of age, and the frame shows minor wear consistent with age. For care, dust the frame with a soft dry brush, never spray cleaners on the canvas, and hang away from direct sun, heat, and humidity. Use secure, heavy-duty hanging hardware.
