This is a striking pair of vintage bronze guardian lion statues, traditional symbols of protection and good fortune. The pair consists of a male and a female lion, each seated attentively on an intricately detailed, geometrically patterned rectangular base.
The male lion, positioned on the right when facing them, rests his paw upon a carved embroidered ball, symbolizing the world and supreme power. The female lion, on the left, playfully rests her paw on a small lion cub, representing the cycle of life and nurturing. Both figures feature highly stylized, curly manes, muscular bodies adorned with harnesses and bells, and expressive, open-mouthed faces.
They are finished in a rich, heavily patinated bronze with beautiful mottled highlights of copper, dark brown, and oxidation, giving them a deeply historical and tactile appearance. These substantial, heavyweight figures make excellent bookends, mantel accents, or entryway guardians.
