This exquisite Baotou piece represents the sophisticated, narrative style prevalent in Northern Chinese weaving during the early Republican period. Its narrow format and finely woven structure make it a perfect small scatter size accent for a hallway or a distinguished bedside placement.

The palette is restrained yet impactful, utilizing a rich indigo and soft teal against a luminous, warm ivory color rugs field. This classic Chinese color pairing highlights the pictorial elements, creating a sense of depth and tranquility that is highly sought after in early 20th-century textiles.

The central field eschews a traditional medallion in favor of a charming, open scene depicting traditional symbolic elements: stylized trees, soaring birds, and a graceful deer, all rendered with the distinctive, almost graphic simplification characteristic of Baotou production. The design elements convey longevity and good fortune, typical of the region's iconography.

Framing the scene is a powerful geometric fret border, executed in contrasting navy and beige, providing a strong architectural definition to the organic interior scene. Woven from high-quality wool, this rug maintains excellent structure and rich color saturation, offering enduring decorative appeal. It is a superb example among antique rugs that captures the elegance and cultural depth of early 20th-century Chinese artistry. See less
