This exceptional Baotou piece captures the refined narrative style popular during the Republican era, distinguishing itself among other antique rugs of the period through its distinctive use of symbolic imagery and deep coloration.

The field is dominated by a rich, nearly indigo hue, creating a dramatic backdrop for the stylized fauna and flora. Two spotted deer, rendered in warm camel tones, flank a central vertical tree structure, symbolizing longevity and prosperity within the Chinese tradition. This saturated blue color rugs palette is characteristic of high-quality Baotou production.

A sophisticated series of borders frames the central vignette, featuring intricate key-fret patterns and stylized wave motifs executed in cream and contrasting lighter blues. This geometric complexity provides a disciplined counterpoint to the organic movement of the central figures, demonstrating the weaver's mastery of both traditional and contemporary Chinese design elements.

Woven in a precise, elongated format, this piece belongs to the highly desirable category of small scatter size rugs. Its dimensions make it perfectly suited for transitional spaces, such as hallways, landings, or as an impactful accent piece in a study, offering both historical depth and a vibrant visual anchor.
